The flooding in the upper midwest is particularly bad this year with many residents living in areas that haven’t been flooded like this in the last 500 years. With the thousands of people now cleaning up after this natural catastrophe, a new concern has arisen involving allergies. As houses, walls, clothes, carpet, and more starts to dry out and be gone through to see what can be salvaged, many people will be exposed to mold. Along with the mold, there will be other things that can affect people’s health and allergies uncovered during the clean-up and rebuilding phases of this work. People should take great care and wear appropriate breathing equipment and filters to protect their health.

When allergies and the problems they cause get into TV movies, TV shows (like Celebrity Apprentice this year), and plays like this, more attention is brought to a subject that many think of as a minor health issue. If you know someone who suffers from severe allergies, you know this is not a minor health issue at all. Many people’s lives have little or at least less quality because of their allergies.

Allergies Galore
By Donald Moody

Allergies are a real problem for all of us, but unfortunately many people don’t realize the danger.
Yes we know that some people are allergic to nuts and some people do die from the allergy. Most of us have heard of the occasional person dying from medication. These deaths occur from anaphylaxis, a state where an unexpected allergic response causes breathing constriction and death if not caught in time.

Sometimes the allergic response is minor, often passing unnoticed, and all stages in between up to the extreme of death. These allergies are the underlying cause of many diseases, because they upset the smooth functioning of the body metabolism and, in my opinion, should be the first thing we look at when we do not feel well,

Let’s take a look at some of the disorders that can be triggered:- Headaches, Migraines, Depression, Stomach disorders, Insomnia, Anxiety, Eczema, Irritability, Constipation, Diarrhea, Weight gain, Chronic fatigue, Itching and rashes, Colds and flu, Aching joints, Bloating, Asthma, Cravings for food, and especially hyper or hypo active children.

By affecting metabolism, allergies can work at different levels in the body, often at the same time. The underlying reaction to food or drink that the body cannot cope with is the storage of toxins, in other words mild poisons. The response of the body is to dilute these toxins, which is an inflammatory response, which causes fluid retention.

The organ that keeps us healthy by breaking down toxic substances is the liver. Continued ingestion of a food the body can’t handle will eventually lead to a breakdown of the liver defenses and these toxins enter the body, causing ‘dis-ease’, and liver damage.

When released into the body system the toxins need to be dealt with and so we get inflammation resulting in fluid retention giving dilution of toxins.

Fluid collecting in the head will cause headaches and migraines, insomnia and personality extremes; dilution of toxins allows the body to excrete them through the skin; eczema, dermatitis, rash, etc. Excretion of toxins through the urinary system can cause kidney malfunction, cystitis, sore genitals and bladder.

Now we begin to see how allergic responses to any substance can disrupt our lives and why some cures never work in the long term.

It is necessary to treat the cause of our problems not the symptom. To do that we need to know what we are allergic to, however minor it may be, because continued and regular ingestion of a substance toxic to us will have a cumulative effect over a period of time.
To begin with our body may cope, but eventually the overload will result in the production of symptoms.

The answer of course is allergy testing and there many ways of doing this, but they all tend to be hit or miss and tend to be carried out once the problem is already there.
More simply we can use a form of natural allergy testing using Applied Kinesiology which allows us, over a period of time, to test everything we or the family eat and nip problems in the bud before they cause trouble.

There are Kinesiologists who do this testing, and it can be done in groups, grains, meat, and so on to keep costs down. There is also a home testing procedure on the market.

This approach then is beneficial to those who are already ill and also to those who have no wish to be ill. It is especially important for parents to know what foods, drinks, or chemicals may be upsetting, or about to upset, their children.

Lastly, we are made of what we eat, drink and breath so it is important that we know what potential damage these elements can do to us. “Look not what can I give my patients to make them better, but what can I take away from them to stop them from being unwell”
Told to me by a Kenyan doctor, when I was a student.

Cause Of Allergies – A Basic Understanding
By Evelyn Lim

It is important you gain an understanding as to what is the cause of allergies so that you can better come up with a treatment plan. Having said that, the cause of allergies has been attributed to various factors. Your allergy symptoms start to flare up when you encounter a trigger. These triggers can include pollen, dust, pet dander, and peanuts, amongst others.

When the offending allergen enters your body, your immune system immediately thinks it is an intruder, due to your increased sensitvity. It then creates immunoglobulin E., an antibody, which produces mast cells that release histamine into the bloodstream to fight against the allergens. The histamine release is what sets into motion your different allergy symptoms.

Your allergy symptoms may include anything from watery eyes, itchy skin, sneezing to difficulties in breathing. These symptoms can range from the very mild to the severe; which is why it is essential that you determine what you are allergic to, so that you can avoid the particular allergen and/or consider treatment methods.

For many people, the cause of allergies is hereditary. So if you have a parent who has allergies, you have a greater chance of developing allergies. You may also find that you may not have the same type of allergy as your parent. What is hereditary is the increased sensitivity to allergens, rather than a specific type of allergy.

Hence, antihistamines are commonly used to treat the symptoms of allergies. They fight against the histamine reaction in your body thereby reducing your symptoms. This will then allow you to live more normally.

Some natural health doctors also say that the cause of allergies is due to a condition known as the leaky gut syndrome. Leaky gut syndrome refers to the damage to the lining of the bowel that leads to increased permeability of the intestinal lining. The lining becomes inflamed and damaged. This may be due to a variety of reasons such as the overuse of antibiotics, poor diet, toxins and infection. When there is increased permeability of the intestinal lining, toxins, undigested food, waste, or other matter are allowed to pass through. Allergic symptoms then manifest due to the increased toxicity of your body.

Learning about the cause of allergies can help you with a better understanding about the reaction of your body. It is important that you look for ways to reduce the histamine response of your body as well as to avoid taking antibiotics as much as possible to prevent further damage to a leaky gut.

Allergic Reactions And How To Live With Them
By Dorothy Santoro

Hay fever is an allergic reaction that most of us have witnessed up close. There are few of us who don’t know of someone, or ourselves, who are among the millions of people who suffer with the sneezing, runny and itchy eyes and noses of hay fever.

And of course, you can tell when allergies are most prevalent, by the commercials on TV. In the spring, when the temperatures finally start to warm up, pharmaceutical companies bombard the TV screen with ads for seasonal allergy medications for those who are allergic to dust and especially, pollen. If you have experience or have been diagnosed with seasonal allergies like hay fever you know how miserable it can be.

It is important though, to find out what is causing your allergy symptoms. Of course, not everyone is allergic to the same substance, even if the symptoms seem the same.

We often find that children are allergic to pet dander, certain foods and dust, which is bad, but, the good thing is that they may outgrow some of these allergies as they mature, just as they sometime outgrow their allergies to Penicillin. And just as in everything else, children’s body chemistry changes as they grow up.

The best way to find out what you are allergic to is to go to an allergy specialist. This doctor will administer a series of tests to see what the underlying cause is of your allergy.

This may not seem like such an important thing, when we are talking about hay fever. Miserable symptoms like those from hay fever are just that, miserable, but not life threatening.

But with people who have serious allergies, it becomes very important, as some of the symptoms can actually result in death. You can’t get much worse than an allergic reaction that causes anaphylactic shock. The body begins to shut down, the throat could become swollen, it also could become difficult if not impossible to breathe.

One of the more severe allergic reactions can be caused by stings from bees or wasps. When you know you have this type of allergy, you can carry an injection to counteract the life threatening symptoms of bee stings, but of course, it is even better to avoid the stings if possible.

Peanut allergies have caused many deaths when the person did not even realize they were exposed. Even the dust from peanuts may cause a horrible reaction in a person, so if you are a parent that has an allergic reaction to peanuts, it would be wise to get your kids checked out. Even though you may not have peanuts in the food or snacks that you serve at home, eventually your children will be put in a position where they could possibly be exposed to peanuts. It’s always good to know, so you can be prepared.

Of course, true food allergies are rare, but when they do occur, they can be devastating. So after you or your children have had the tests and the diagnosis, then you can sit down with your allergist and talk about avoidance, along with a treatment plan that you can live with, but, don’t let your allergies prevent you from getting out and enjoying life.

To find out more about allergies, allergic reactions, preventative measures such as air cleaners for those afflicted with allergies to dust, pollen, pet dander, etc., check out the articles at http://www.allergies.healthprobleminfo.com This resource is updated regularly.
